[Opening Credits]

Field outisde of Smallville. Day. As the smoke clears, Lana can be seen lying near a crater. The wreckage of the helicopter is in the background.

Inside the crater, the spaceship comes to life, emitting a very bright light. Lana watches the scene. When she sees a figure emerge, she starts to run away. The Kryptonians are too quick, getting in front of her. One is male, the other, female.

Lana : Please, don't hurt me.

Vehicles, blaring sirens, and helicopters come upon them. They surround them.

Police Officer : Lie down on the ground!

The female Kryptonian shoots the helicopter down with her heat vision. Lana is knocked down on the ground. The police begin firing wildly at the Kryptonians. Lana hides in the tall grass, watching the bullets ricocheting off of the Kyrptonians.

The female Kryptonian shoots a police car with her heat vision, blowing it up. The male does the same. The destory all of the police cars and helicopters. Lanna is still hiding in the tall grass.

Female Kryptonina : Where is the girl?

Male Kryptonina : She is irrelevent. We must find Kal-El.

There is a Kryptonian symbol on the female's lower back, which Lana notices. She watches as they leave.

The Kent Farm. Day. Lois arrives in her convertable. She sees Krypto and says something to him, after getting out of her car.

She goes past a flaming meteorite in the Kent's yard and looks upon their almost completely destroyed house. She runs inside to find it in shambles.

Lois : Oh my God.

Jonathan : Martha! Martha, sweetheart! Martha!

He is searching frantically for his wife under the debries.

Lois : Mr. Kent! Are you okay? Mrs. Kent! Clark!

Jonathan : Clark isn't here; he's alright. Martha!

He and Lois serach for Martha.

Jonathan : Martha!

Lois finds her.

Lois : Here! She's here!

Jonathan : Sweetheart, I'm gonna get you out of here. It's okay. Easy, easy.

Lois : She's barely breathing.

Jonathan : She'll be fine.We're gonna get you out of here. Can you help e get her out of here?

Lois nods.

Inside the Kawatche caves, Lex crawls out from under some rubble. He pickes up a small, orange, electronic device lying on the ground nearby.

Lex : Where'd you go, Chloe?

He walks towards the center of the cave and removes the octagonal key. He studies it. He turns around and sees the Kryptonians, who are now wearing jump suits.

The female Kryptonian uses her X-ray vision.

Female Kryptonina : He has the key.

She holds out her hand and the key flies into it.

Lex : Who are you?

Male Kryptonina : Are you Kal-El?

Lex : Who wants to know?

The males goes up to Lex, wrapping a hand around his throat, digging his fingers in so hard that Lex's neck begins to bleed.

Female kryptonina : It's not him. Kal-El would not bleed.

The male Kryptonian flings Lex several feet away. They disappear.

Artic. Day. Chloe is lying on the ground, unconcious. She wakes up and looks around.

Chloe : Clark? Clark!

She gazes up at the Fortress of Solitude in wonder.

Inside the Fortress of Solitude.

Clark : I thought Krypton was desotroyed!

Jor-El : It was, but here in your Fortress of Solitude, the geography of our plantet has been replicated for your training.

Clark : I know there's a lot I can learn from you, but I have to get home. That's where I'm needed.

Jor-El : The meteor shower is only the precursor. A dark force from Krypton has been awakened, Kal-El, and it's sights have been set on Earth.

Clark : What do you want me to do?

A blue light encircles Clark.

Jor-El :You must do as I tell you. Study with diligence, for that is the only way to save this planet.

Images and symbols now encircle Clark.

Chloe walks towards the Fortress of Solitude and enters. She is shivering due to the very cold climate. She sees Clark encircles by the blue light. A gust of wind blows and she falls to her knees. She's starting to freeze to death.

Chloe : Clark!

She completley colapses.

The visions are still flashing before Clark's eyes, but he can still hear Chloe.

Chloe : Clark, can you hear me? Clark!

Chloe is badly frozen, her voice is weak.

The visions around Clark disipate and he sees Chloe.

Clark : Chloe!

He runs to her and cradles her.

Jor-El : Kal-El, you must continue your education. You cannot stop.

Clark : She's my friend! She needs help!

Jor-El : Your destiny is far greater than saving one human life.

Clark : No, I won't let her die!

Jor-El : Each time you let your emotions guide you, the fate of the of the entire planet is at risk. That is your weakness, Kal-El!

Clark : Please! I'm begging you!

Chloe is shivering.

Jor-El : Very well--under one condition: return to me before the yellow sun has set.

Clark : I'll be back. I promise.

Jor-El : Do not fail me, Kal-El, for the consequences will be grave.

Clark : You have my word.

Chloe : Hey. I think it's time you switch into Super Clark mode now.

Clark : Super Clark.

Chloe : I know you run faster than a speeding bullet, Clark. Take me along for the ride.

Clark picks her up.

Chloe : Go, Clark.

They speed off.

Lex is speeding down the highway. Day. Lana walks right out in front of him, limping. He sees her just in time, stopping right in front of her, and only missing her by a few inches. He gets out of the car.

Lex : Lana!

Lana begins to walk away.

Lex : What happened?

Lana [walking still]: They're still out there. They'll kill us if tey find us.

Lex : It's okay. You're safe now. Lana, you need to get off that leg. I'll call a doctor.

Lana is still walking. She seems to be in shock. Lex follows.

Lana : You don't understand. We're not safe. We're not safe!

Lex grabs hold of her from behind.

She tries to break free form his arms, but is unsuccessful.

Lex : Lana, you're in shock! It's over! The meteor shower stopped. It's over.

Lana relaxes a little bit--still in his arms. She is still upset, however.

Lana : There's a man and a woman. They're right behind us. They came out--

Lex turns her around to face him.

Lex : Out of what? What did they come out of?

Lana : A spaceship.

Lex touches her face.

Lex : Where?

Lana : In Lander's Field.

Lex : Lana, after what you've been through, it's perfectly normal for your mind to play tricks on you. Trust me.

Lana gets angry and pushes him away.

Lana : No, Lex! You trust me! I know what I saw. We have to get as far away as possible.

She starts to limp back in the direction of his car.

Lex : Lana!

Lana weakens and falls to the ground unconcious.

Cut to next scene. The scenery of a village with snowy mountains can be seen.

Cut to Chloe's hospital room. A nurse hands her something.

Chloe : Thank you.

The nurse leaves. We see Clark leaning against the wall.

Chloe : I wonder who's more freaked out right now: me, knowing I'm in a hospital where they get their medicine via dogsled, or you, finally finding out I know your secret.

Clark : How long have you known?

Chloe : I guess I've always had my suspicions. The quick exits, the miraculous recoveries, the lame excuses, but I think when I saw you catch a car like it was a beach ball, that kinda confirmed everything.

Clark walks to the window and looks out.

Clark : Why didn't you say anything?

Chloe : I figured if you wanted to tell me you were part of the super power persausion, you would when you were ready. On your terms; not on mine.

Clark : You're a good friend, Chloe.

Chloe : Obviously not good enough.

Clark : There were so many times I wanted to tell you.

Chloe : Clark, I don't blame you. Loose lips sink ships and God knows I've sunk my share of floatilas. What about Lana? Does she know?

Clark turns around.

Clark : No.

Chloe : Well, I want you to know, I'll never be the iceberg to your Titanic, and your secret will never ever leave my lips. No matter what.

Clark : I appreciate that.

Chloe : There's still a few blind spots though. LIke, how did we get beamed from the Kawatche cave to the North Pole? And, what was really going on in that forty story igloo?

Clark : Look, Chloe, there's a lot of things about me that even I don't understand. The meteor rocks--they didn't make me the way I am.

Chloe : So, you're saying you were born this way?

Clark : I wasn't born anywhere near Smallville. In fact, I wasn't born anywhere near this galaxy.

Chloe : Okay...okay...so that would make you an...

Clark : Yeah.

chloe :But you...you look so...

Clark : Human?

Chloe stares at him.

Clark : I'm still the same person.

Chloe : Clark --I think you're so amazing. You save people's lives and take zero credit for it. To me, you're more than just a hero. You're a super hero.

Clark : Chloe--

Chloe : I'm serious, Clark. If more humans were like you, the world would be a better place.

They share a smile. Then their attention is drawn to the TV. The news is playing silently. The meteor shower is featured. Clark turns up the volume.

Anchorman :...what scientists are describing as a rare astronomical event, Smallville, Kansas was hit by the second meteor shower in sixteen years, kililing twenty-three people and injuring scores of others.

The damaged Kent Farm is shown.

Clark : They didn't get out. My parents didn't get out.

Chloe : Smallville needs you more than I do Clark. Go. Go!

Clark super speeds away.

Chloe : Whoa.

Lana is lying on a couch in the upper level of Lex's study. She's unconsious. A scratching noise can be heard. Lana begins to stir. She looks over the railing and sees Lionel on the floor, scratching it with something. She goes down the stairs.

Lana : Mr. Luthor. Mr. Luthor! Are you okay?

Lionel suddenly turns around and grabs her hand. He's looking downward.

lionel : The disciples of Zod.

He looks up to reveal his eyes have gone grey. Lana pulls away out of shock.

Lionel : They must be stopped!

Lana : You're talking about the people from the ship.

Lionel stands up.

Lionel : Their home is their only poison.

He looks to the open safe filled with Kryptonite.

Lionel : Their home is their only poison.

Lana : Where are they?

Inside Smallville Medical Center, Jonathan is at Martha's bedside. She is just waking up. He smiles.

Jonathan : Ah, Martha Kent! If you were tyring to scare me, you did one heck of a job. For a minute there, I thought I lost you.

Martha : I guess I found my way back.

Jonathan nods.

Martha : Has Clark come home?

Jonathan : Sweetheart, please, you need to use all of your energies just to get better, not to worry about Clark. Our son can handle anything that's thrown his way.

Lois enters.

Lois : Mrs. Kent! I have to say, you look a whole lot better without a china cabinet on your back.

Martha takes her hand as she says: Hi, Lois. It's good to see you.

Jonathan : Lois was quite a hero out there.

Lois : You guys put a roof over my head. Least I could do was help out when it came crashing down.

Suddenly there's an explosion and the windows are blown out. The hallway is in chaos. Jonathan runs out of the room to check out the situation. He comes face to face with the Kryptonians.

Male Kryptonina : Where is Kal-El?

Jonathan : Who are you?

Female Kryptonina : You know where he is.

Jonathan : I'm sorry, lady. I don't know who you're talking about.

The female Kryptonian picks him up by the neck, choking him. Lois steps in.

Lois : OKay, everyone needs to calm down and count to ten. Put the nice man down.

The female flings Jonathan to the other end of the hall.

Lois : Look, super freak, you wanna find your Kal-El buddy; you need to start working on your communication skills.

The female picks her up and chokes her.

Lana appears from nowhere.

Lana : I know where Kal-El is. He's hiding out at the Luthor mansion. I can take you to him.

The female Kryptonian drops Lois. The Kryptonians lead Lana away by the arms.

Lois : (hoarsley) Lana!

Clark is back at the Kent Farm.

Clark : Mom! Dad?

Lex enters.

lex : Clark! Thank God you're okay.

Clark : Where's my mom and dad?

Lex : At the hospital. Your mom has a broken leg and a concusion, but she's going to be okay. She's out of danger now.

Clark : What about Lana?

Lex : Lana's safe. It's Chloe I'm worried about.

Clark : Why?

Lex : Clark, she was down in the cave with me when the meteors hit. I was knocked out and when I came to, she was gone.

Clark : She must have escaped while you were unconcious.

Lex : Or someone helped her out.

Clark : What? You think I did? Lex, how could I--

Lex : Clark, before I passed out, there was a light brighter than anything I've ever seen. I could've sworn I saw you standing right in it's epicenter.

Clark : I was nowhere near those caves.

Lex : If you weren't with your parents when the meteors hit, where have you been?

Clark : They insisted I get a headstart. I got a ride on one of the military vans.

Lex : Why do I get this nagging feeling that you're being less than honest with me?

Clark : I have no idea.

Lex : Well, I'm beginning to get the impression that lying is an unshakable habit of your's.

Clark : I don't have to listen ot this.

He turns to leave.

LEX: Then be straight with me for once.

Clark stops walk and Lex gets in front of him, putting his hands on his shoulders.

LEX: If you're my friend, just tell me the truth. Were you in the cave when the meteors hit?

CLARK: No.

Lex walks away.

Inside the hopsital, Lois is on her cell phone.

LOIS: Look, I understand the police have their hands full, but Mr. and Mrs. Universe--they're killing people.

CLARK: Lois!

She hangs up and turns around.

LOIS: Clark! You're okay!

They hug.

CLARK: Yeah, you?

LOIS: I'm fine.

CLARK: Have you seen my parents.

LOIS: They are going to be fine.

CLARK: Where are they?

LOIS: Actually, um, we have another problem. Kind of a big problem, really. A happy loving couple came through here with super powers and a really bad attitude. Got pretty ugly.

CLARK: What'd they want?

LOIS: They were looking for some guy named Kal-El. You ever hear of him?

CLARK: Where'd they go?

Lana and the Kryptonians enter Lex's study.

LANA: Kal-El's in there.

The Kryptonians walk to the Krypton-filled safe and are weakened.

FEMALE KRYPTONINA: It's a trick! Get the door! Seal it!

The male runs and gets the safe door, which is across the room, sealing the safe.

MALE KRYPTONINA: Lying is their way.

FEMALE KRYPTONINA: Not for long.

The female angrily throws Lana across the room and into a glass case. Lana is unconcious.

Clark arrives.

CLARK: I heard you are looking for me. I'm Kal-El.

MALE KRYPTONINA: At last!

CLARK: Who are you?

FEMALE KRYPTONINA: The last survivers of Krypton.

CLARK: What do you want?

MALE KRYPTONINA: We want you to join us, Kal-El, and help us make this savage land our Utopia.

CLARK: I saw what you did at the hospital. It's not Utopia; it's murder!

MALE KRYPTONINA: The few must be sacrificed for the sake of the many.

CLARK: Then sacrifice me, 'cause I'm not going to let you kill anyone else.

FEMALE KRYPTONINA: If that is yoru descision, so be it, Kal-El.

She slides a bracelet off of her rist and throws it at Clark. It misses and expands mid-air into a vortex. The Kryptnians use their heat visioin on Clark, knocking him towards the vortex, which is attempting to suck him inside of it. Before he can get suck in, Clark punches the floor, making a hole and anchoring himself with it.

MALE KRYPTONINA: We can't destroy you, Kal-El, but we can lock you in a place where you can't stop us.

Clark begins to slip, losing his grip.

MALE KRYPTONIAN: It is done.

Clark regains his grip and thrusts himself foward. He pushes the Kryptonians into the vortex. Once they are inside, the vortex turns into a metallic rectangle with their images on it. It flies through the window and off into the distance.

Clark sees Lana, who is stiring. He picks her up and lays her down in the center of the room.

LANA: Oh, Clark!

CLARK: Are you okay?

LANA: Where are they?

CLARK: They're gone. Do you know wo they were?

Lana shakes her head.

CLARK: We need to get you to a hospital.

He touches her hair and is pricked by some broken glass. He bleeds. The octagonal key is lying on the floor nearby. It will not fly into his hand.

Kent Farm. Day. The Kents drive up in their truck. They got out of the truck. Martha is on crutches.

Martha, upon seeing their destroyed house: My God, our home!

JONATHAN: It's just wood and plaster, Martha. The fact is, our family's still standing. We might be bruised, but I think we're stronger for it.

MARTHA: You're right. A house can always be rebuilt.

JONATHAN: It doesn't hurt to have a one man construction team as a son.

Martha, to CLARK: Hi.

CLARK: Hi.

JONATHAN: Don't worry, Clark. Things are gonna get back to normal soon enough.

CLARK: Actually, things will be a lot more normal around here than you think. My abilities are gone.

MARTHA: How?

CLARK: Jor-El took them, but I'm not sure it's such a bad thing. All I've ever wanted was to be normal. Now, finally, I am.

JONATHAN: I don't think this adjustment is giong to be quite as easy as you do, Clark.

CLARK: But that's why I'm lucky to have parents like you. Every time I woke up and had a new ability, you were always there to help me adjust and this time is no different.

MARTHA: It's different. You can get hurt now; you're vonerable.

CLARK: Isn't that what it means to be human?

JONATHAN: Nah, I-I can't imagine Jor-El giving up on you that easy.

CLARK: I took care of the danger he warned me about. If losing my abilities is the consequence, then I think he's done with me. Look, it's all in the past now. I'm ready to take a step to the future. I'll start by rebuilding this house, one board at a time.

CUT TO Chloe's hosptial room. Day. Chloe is asleep. Somebody wakes her up.

CHLOE: Clark?

She sits up a bit and sees that it's Lex.

LEX: Now, how could Clark possibly be hree? We're in the middle of the Yukon.

CHLOE: I don't know. I must've been dreaming, I guess. What's going on, Lex?

LEX: I came to take you home.

Clark enters Smallville Medical center with a bouquet of Irises in hand. Lois sees him.

LOIS: Clark! Really, you shouldn't have.

She takes the bouquet from him.

CLARK: Actually, I didn't.

LOIS: Too sweet for words.

CLARK: How'd you get that frog in your throat?

LOIS: That's what happens when you get a neck massage form Barbie the Barbarian. Doctor says I shouldn't talk too much.

CLARK: Oh, gee. That's too bad.

LOIS: Don't get your hopes up, Smallville. It's not permanent. Oh, I gotta catch a plane for Geneva in two hours. If I'm late, the general will court marshall me or something.

CLARK: You know, I did wanna say thank you. You were there for my parents. It means a lot.

LOIS: I'm sure it does. But, not enough to give me this deluxe Iris arrangement from Main Street Florist.

She hands him back the bouquet.

LOIS: She's down the hall. Room 258.

Lana is lying in bed, reading a news paper. There is a picture of Genevieve and Jason Teague and above them it says: "Socialite and son killed". There is also a handwritten message on the paper which reads: "You owe me one.-L".

Clark enters and Lana puts the paper away.

CLARK: I hope Irises are still on your favorite flowers list.

LANA: Some things stay number one forever. Thank you.

CLARK: Lana, before the meteor showever, you came by the barn. You said some things. A few words sorta stood out.

LANA: Clark, the sky was literally about to fall down on us. I never knew if I'd see you again.

CLARK: Right. We were in the middle of a crisis. Sometimes people say things they don't mean.

LANA: Clark, I meant every word. The question is, did you?

Clark leans in and kisses her.

CLARK: No more secrets. No more lies.

LANA: Clark, I wanna ask you something: do you beleive in life on other planets?

CLARK: Actually, I do.

LANA: I saw something that in crater. It was a spaceship, Clark. It was unbelieveable.

Clark goes back to the crater to find no ship inside.

The ship is inside Luthor Corp. A black liquid drips from it. From the liquid forms a man.

FADE TO BLACK.
